We're back!

It has been a few years since last we posted a blog, but our presence in the tubes of the internets is back.

Throughout the year, we will be posting up information on upcoming events and speakers, as well as post-event wrap-ups.

Hope to see some more visitors perusing our corner of the information super-highway in the future!

Worried about not getting a job?
You most likely will not get one, unless you come to this event.

Want to learn about a recession proof area of law?

AIPEL SPEAKER SERIES PRESENTS

Emerging issues in Patent Law and Intellectual Property

Guest speaker Bennett Clark

Bennett Clark is Co-Leader of the Intellectual Property group & Partner at Bryan Cave LLP Saint Louis

Monday, November, 10th, 1:00p.m., Courtroom

Law360, New York (October 31, 2008) -- As some law firm practice groups sputter in this economic downturn, at least one firm segment — intellectual property — remains strong as clients acknowledge that it's shortsighted to scale back on applying for and protecting patents and trademarks.

Lawyers and consultants said that unlike mergers and acquisitions, real estate and other areas, intellectual property practices are pretty much recession proof. Ben Clark, the co-leader of Bryan Cave LLP's intellectual property group, acknowledged that it is costly to obtain patents and trademarks and to protect them against alleged infringers once they are obtained.”

“Clients will want to see — maybe more than ever — that firms are sensitive to the costs of funding litigation and patent prosecutions. “It's an environment where a nod toward sensitivity to cost containment can go a long way,” Clark said.

Interested in Competing in the Chili Cook-Off?

Hello fellow members,

Now that the date is set, October 24th, we need to look ahead and
try to plan the event. I would ask that any interested member ask
around and gauge interest in potential competitors.

We need to estimate the number of competitors to come up with rules,
prize money, entry fees, and etc. The goal is to come up with a list
of people very likely to compete.

Also we are open to ideas, this is our event and the idea is to make
it fun for us. For example, we would like to have trophies for winners
and other fun things for people there, so be creative.

We are opening up the chili competition to AIPEL members first. If you are interested in competing, please email umclawaipel@missouri.edu by Tuesday, October 7 confirming your entry. We will have a handful of professors competing also.

It will be a great way to start off your Homecoming Weekend!
